Executive summary · as of 06:03 UTC
The situation
Edge and perimeter infrastructure dominated this window. CISA added four actively exploited flaws to KEV: a Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS code-injection zero-day (CVE-2026-0322), a Cisco Secure Email Gateway path traversal giving unauthenticated root (CVE-2026-76519), and a chainable Ahsay AhsayCBS authentication bypass plus command injection pair (CVE-2026-105133/105134). CISA also urged immediate patching of an Ivanti Connect Secure zero-day (CVE-2026-104935), exploited since at least October 1. It is the sixth exploited Ivanti bug this year. Microsoft's record October Patch Tuesday fixed 1,413 vulnerabilities, including one actively exploited Windows flaw and two other zero-days. Juniper disclosed a large batch of critical Junos OS bugs, including unauthenticated root via J-Web and multiple BGP/rpd overflows. Unit 42 documented PEERSTITCH, a memory-resident ARM64 FortiGate implant deployed via FortiManager CVE-2024-47575 against 500+ firewalls. NVD published 414 CVEs in the window (40 reviewed here) and 69 WordPress component vulnerabilities (30 reviewed).
Law enforcement and industry disruption was significant. Microsoft, Japan's National Police Agency and Health-ISAC seized domains behind the Chinese-language YAM Store, CoGUI and Iron Man phishing platforms (Storm-2990/Storm-3119). These platforms are tied to more than 1 billion phishing messages against 75,000+ organizations. The DoJ disrupted Famous Chollima DPRK IT-worker laptop farms in Texas, North Macedonian police arrested the alleged OLVX market administrator, and the UK sanctioned Cryptomus. Social-engineering lures remain prolific: fake AI tool sites push infostealers, and fake Calendly 'Meta Careers' pages steal logins despite 2FA. abuse.ch logged 2,226 new indicators across 109 families, led by Vidar (981) and the IClickFix/ClearFake fake-CAPTCHA delivery ecosystem.
Extortion activity was heavy. The N0n group is pressuring 38 shipping, port and logistics firms ahead of an October 19 deadline and posted multiple new victims, including a smart-building integrator whose leaked data allegedly includes client credentials. Japan faces a ransomware wave hitting major brands, with Eclipse claiming The Japan Times and Taiwan Otsuka Pharmaceutical. HIBP loaded the ShinyHunters Crunchbase leak (559,908 accounts). Ledger halted sales across seven Asian markets while it investigates hardware wallet tampering. Priority actions: patch PAN-OS, Cisco SEG, Ivanti ICS, AhsayCBS and Windows; restrict J-Web and management-plane exposure on Juniper devices; hunt for ClickFix-style clipboard execution and infostealer activity.
